Classroom News..
May is a special month as we celebrate Our Blessed Mother, Mary. Congratulations to members of our class who are celebrating their First Communion this month. On May, 17th we will take part in the school Mass for Ascension Thursday. The children who recently received their First Communion are invited to wear their special outfits for this Mass. The children should wear their Communion attire to school and bring their uniform to change after Mass. The Mass is scheduled for 9:00 in the church. Children who are not receiving the Sacrament may wear their Sunday best to school and bring their uniform to change. All are welcome to join us for this OLA tradition. We will begin working on subtracting 3 digit numbers, regrouping twice in Math. I recently ordered a butterfly kit for the class. We will watch their development and keep a journal of our findings. The class enjoyed reading Flat Stanley in class. We incorporated comprehension, vocabulary, creative writing, and math skills as we read the story together. The pictures the children took with Stanley during their vacation were terrific. They enjoyed sharing them with their classmates. I would like to ask parents to remind their children to complete their homework neatly and correctly each night. As we move towards the end of the year I want to encourage the students to make sure their work is written with care and thought. We continue to work on this in the classroom and I think a home reminder might help the cause. The study guides that we use in class are a helpful tool to establish good study habits as the children prepare to move on to third grade. As always thank you for your support. The class did a wonderful job on their April book reports.
-Second grade welcomed a surprise visitor last week, Marjah's brother Kervin. Kervin recently returned from his tour of duty in Afghanistan . Kervin wanted to personally thank the students for their daily prayers and cards. Kervin is a wonderful example of the young men and women serving our country. Good Luck Kervin and thank you!
The May Book Report Project will go home this week. This month's project will be Book News. The project will be due on Tuesday, May 29th. The tan information folder will go home with the directions and template. Please read and follow all the directions. The assignment will be graded for content, correct spelling, and punctuation, NEATNESS, following directions and EFFORT. Reading 15 minutes is part of the nightly homework assignment and Reading grade.
